Chapter 6 (page 43-55)
- Peter decides to remain at the ball field when the team takes the field to better “blend in” with the others. Jon Klassen’s illustration on page 44 shows Peter sitting on the bench. What details in the illustration might suggest how Peter is feeling?
- How is the shortstop on the field described? Why do you think Peter connects with him so strongly?
- Peter recalls seeing a therapist after his mother’s death. When the therapist asks him if Peter felt “angry”, he quickly responds “No”. What does he do after the therapy session that illustrates that he is indeed angry? What is the truth behind Peter’s anger?
- At the end of the chapter, Peter makes a huge mistake. Describe what happens?
- Make a prediction at this point. What might happen next?
4: At the end of chapter 6 Peter walks into a swamp and then worst of it right after he got his food stuck in the roots of a tree he fell and heard a bone crack.
ReplyDelete5: Peter is stuck there for a long time untill Bristle a fox Pax another fox met comes face to face with Peter but Pax isnt there to see it, Bristle then attepts to attack Peter...
For questions 4&5 I did not understand the chapter very well can someone explain it to me.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Re-read chapter 6. Question 4 asks you to describe what happens at the end and Question 3 asks you to predict what will happen next. Other bloggers can't help you with this.
DeleteThanks Ms D'Angelo, I re-read the chapter and understand it! Thank you!
DeleteQuestion 4: At the end of chapter 6 Peter made a huge mistake. The huge mistake was that he was clambering back to higher ground and then he made a mistake. His mistake was that his right foot got caught on a root and he fell. When Peter fell he heard a bone crack. That was Peter's huge mistake.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 5: I think that Pax is going to find Peter and Pax is going to try and help Peter because he fell and he broke a bone. If Pax can't help Peter then maybe another fox will come or another person will come to see if they can help. Peter is going to be there for a long time because he broke a bone. Peter can't get up if he broke a bone so then someone has to help him. That's what I think is going to happen next in story.

ReplyDeletequestion 2: The shortstop on the baseball field is described as a statue and he was one of the short baseball players and he was very good and he was very focused.
ReplyDeleteThe shortstop is described as a statue because he is just standing there waiting for the ball to come to him. He is one of the shorter players and he was very patient and was waiting for the coaches bat to hit the ball. He was very patient while the other kids sprang all around the field when the ball hit the bat he sprung and somehow got to the ball every time.
ReplyDeleteI think peter is feeling sad, because on the bench he was just sitting there watching the kids play baseball. Baseball is his favorite sport. I think the author means to blend in by just sitting there watching with his baseball cap. This is what makes me thing peter is sad.

ReplyDeleteGood job AJ but you should add a direct quote like "while the rest of the players scrambled around like puppies, this kid was a statue."that would of made your answer stronger so next time use a driest qoute
Deletehe stayed when the kids played base ball because base ball is his favorite sport.
ReplyDeletepeter takes a green jolly rancher after every sesion and kicks it or throws it.
peter mistake was not bring a extra pair of socks because his got soaked when he stepped in the mud.
i think peter is gonna find pax but when he gets back he is going to be in trouble.
Nice job Johnson but next time try add more information and a quote to support evdince

ReplyDeleteThe shortstop was described as being a statue because he was just standing because he is a focused player an probably knows what he's doing

DeleteGavin you should you should describe how the field looked like at the moment. for example the little boy was the only one who was playing shortstop. For example on page 45 it said " while the rest of the players scrambled around like puppies, this kid was a statue. This shows the player was the only one that played shortstop.
Deletequestion 4 :The mistake that Peter made at the end of chapter 6 is walking in the wet and spongy swamp, and also not being prepared and bringing extra clothes , or as the text said " not bringing more socks---another mistake". And with Peter being distrackted with the wet socks , he came across the real problem , braking his leg and not being able to call or ask for help.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 5 :From the current events in the story I think what will happen next is that he tries to continue his search for Pax by crawling to a nearby house or store and asking for help , just because of his love for his fox , Pax. Peter is too determind to find his beloved pet that nothing will stop him from finding his #1 pet , Pax.
You should add a detail for question #5. For example on page 48 peter tells his dad "i am keeping him". This shows peter doesn't care anymore that his father doesn't want Pax because Pax is the only one in his life who makes Peter happy.
Deletein the text peter describes baseball as "holy" and "calm". Peter says that the shortstop probally fees the same way.
ReplyDeletein the text it states he was staring at the ball when the pitcher threw the ball what u could of said was when he was playing baseball the pitcher had threw the ball but he was just staring at it and then ad d what u wrote.
Deleteit shows that peter is angry because he takes his jolly rancher, and throws it out. Then he asked his dad if he can stop going.but when he got pax, he wanted to take the toy cars, and start crashing them together.
ReplyDeleteThe shortstop is described as a statue as it states in paragraph 25 while all the kids were scrambled around like puppies only the shortstop was staying still. Also it says that he is small because in the text it states he was small. this is how i would describe the shortstop
ReplyDeletePeter was actually angry because when her mom went to go to the grocery store she was suppose to take peter but he was being bad and did not go.that whenever is see the therapist again i will crash two cars constantly over again.
ReplyDeletein the passage it says that she would go grocery shopping but she never goes home.
Delete2) I think he can relate to shortstop player because peter is not a muscle man like all the other players but it sounds as if player at shortstop is not muscle like the other boys like peter.
ReplyDelete3)he takes a piece of candy and then when he is leaving he through`s the candy away. and also he says if he ever goes back that place he is going to smash the cars over and over again.
In the story the short stop is described as small in page 45 paragraph 3." A small kid." Als on page 45 paragraph 3 he is described as a statue."This kid was a statue." On page 45-46 paragraph 4 it shows why Peter connects with the short stop." The feeling that brought Peter was some thing he had never tried to describe to anyone else partly because it felt to private, but mostly because he didn't think he had the words to explain it. Holy came the closest, and calm was in the mix, but neither was exactly right. For a crazy minute, Peter sensed that the short stop under stood about the holy calm, was feeling it too, right now."
ReplyDelete3. What Peter does is he gets a jolly rancher at the end of every session but the final day when he leaves the place he kicks the jolly rancher and tells his dad he is not going back on page 47-48 it states." And then he'd gotten off from the floor and taken a single green apple jolly rancher from the brass bowl by the door, exactly the way he did at the end of every session that was the deal the kind eye therapist had made with him: Whenever he'd had enough, he could take a candy and the session would be over and left. But outside he'd kicked the candy into the gutter, and on the way home, he'd told his father ha wasn't going back again."
2. The shortstop on the field is something where it is a position in between 2nd and 3rd base. But peter wanted to play because he saw the kid playing the short stop. But peter probably use to play that position when he use to play so that made him even more anxious to play baseball.
ReplyDelete3. When peter went to the therapist after his mothers death and he was "angry". The reason how I know he was angry is that when he is angry he could take a piece of candy and that means the session was over. So he took a piece of candy and left. Then he took the candy and then threw it into the sewer.
the mistake peter makes is that he goes into the wrong path away from the highway. It states on page 52"Worse, it might lead to a bigger road the Atlas has been to old to show." This shows, that he might get lost because he might go farther than the map goes, which the map is the whole reason peter didn't get lost. Another quote from the text on page 53 is" he caught the sight of a dear he held his breathe as the orchard filled 14 deer in all." This shows, he wouldn't be in this much trouble if he would have not gone this way for that mistake he can pay the price of his life. In conclusion, this shows that going into this mysterious road was his mistake and how he did it.
ReplyDelete1. In the illustration on page 44 it shows that peter is sad and lonely. I think this because he is just sitting there and nobody is with him.
ReplyDeletenice job but add more detail.
Delete2.The shortstop field is describe like a statue because on page 45 it said "While the rest of the players scrambled around like puppies, this kid was statue, hands poised waist high, eyes glued to the coach's bat."
ReplyDeletekyle try to add a little more information in your paragraph.like why did he go to the thearpist. try to be more clearer in your sentences.
ReplyDeleteI think Peter was feeling happy at the ball field. I can tell because Peter says he was born to play baseball. In paragraph 3, it states "But a baseball field was the only place where he felt he was exactly where he was born to be." Also, Peter knows that he didn't look like the type of kid that would be at a baseball field. In paragraph 3, it states " Peter knew he himself wasn't the kind of kid you'd expect to find on a ball field." This is how I can tell that Peter was happy where he was.
ReplyDeleteThe shortstop is described as a statue. In the text it states, "While the rest of the players scrambled around like puppies, this kid was a statue, hands poised waist high, eyes glued to the coach's bat." Peter can relate because he says he looks like he doesn't belong on a ball field and neither can the boy.
ReplyDelete2. I think the boy in shortstop was so interesting to peter because he likes how good he was even though he was such a short and scrawny kid.
ReplyDelete3. peter showed his anger at the end of the session by kicking the jolly rancher into the gutter. He is mad because he felt the question was offensive and shows this as he tells he did he didnt want to go to the therapist any more.
The illustration on page 44 might suggest that Peter is sad and misses Pax because he is sitting slump like he is sad and has no one to be with. It also suggest that he is also very interested with the shortstop and how he was so focused.
ReplyDeleteI think after this peter will get lost. But I think he will find his way back. Also he will find some of Pax's siblings. And I think he will get so depressed he will go back to his grandpa. In conclusion, this shows what I think will happen in the future.
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeletequestion 4:Peter made a big mistake during his trip. Peter was trying to get back to a higher ground. His right foot got caught in a root and he fell. He heard a bone break. This was his mistake.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 5: I think that he might have to go back to his house. How is peter going to continue his journey if his foot could be broken. This is my prediction.
Peter decides to remain at the ball field when the team takes the field to better “blend in” with the others because he wanted to get better and he said the baseball field was his second home and he felt really good there.
ReplyDelete1) Peter decides to remain at the ball field when the team takes the field to better “blend in” with the others because he wanted to get better and he said the baseball field was his second home and he felt really good there. In the text it stated" this baseball field is pretty much my second home"
ReplyDeleteQuestion 4: Peter had made a huge mistake during his trip/journey. At the time, Peter was climbing a tree. His foot was caught in one of the roots of the tree and he fell. He claimed he heard a bone break. In my opinion, I think this was a big mistake on his part.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 5: I think Peter might end his journey and stop and take a rest. He might take a rest at home. I think this because he said he heard a break in his foot. He cant continue his journey if he has an injury. This is what I think will happen next.
2) The shortstop on the field was described as his favorite position on the field and he said he was more focused on the shortstop rather than all the positions The text states " As the coaches hit the fungos at the shortstop and the second base mans"
ReplyDelete4. Peters mistake was that he broke his ankle. "His right foot caught on a root and he fell. He heard the bone break - a soft, muffled snap - at the same time he felt the sharp stab"
ReplyDelete5. It might take him a while to heal but then it would take even longer to get home and find pax

DeleteWhat do you think would of happened if peter never broke his leg?
ReplyDeletehe would've played baseball longer
DeleteWhy was the fence so important to peter.
ReplyDeletei think peter is sad and a little depressed.also he looks a little lonely. the short stop is described as statue because hes standing still and doing nothing. the truth behind peters anger is he has no parents really because his mom did and his dad is in war. peters huge mistake is he breaks his ankle and he dosent bring a extra pair of socks and his feet get soaked
