1 - Questions - CCSS 6RL2&4 and 6W4 & 6

Think about the meaning of the phrase that appears before the story begins: “Just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.” What does that phrase mean to you? Why do you think the author did not name a specific place or area as the setting of the book? What did Peter throw to get Pax to run and why do you think the author chose that object?

  6. the meaning of the phrase is that you never know what is going on somewhere else. the author didn't name a specific place because there wasn't a very important part yet. Peter through a plastic solider, it was Paxs favorite toy. Also he knew that Pax would run after it.

  8. I think Sara Pennypacker said that to draw you in to the book and leaves you in suspance which will want to make you read the book even more. Peter chose that toy was because it was a soilder and it was peter's and pax's favorite toy and he will always fetch the toy when it is thrown.

  9. the phrase "just because its not happening here doesn`t mean its not happening" means to me that if a rain storm is not happening where i am that doesn`t mean it is not happening somewhere else in the world. this phrase means alot to people because lets say if someone was rich they would have the best life abd they would think every one is rich but there is also alot of poor people. this is what the phrase means to me. what does it mean to u?

  12. Q.1) I think the phrase means that your thinking/dreaming about something but in reality its not really happening.
Q.2) I think they didn't state a setting because it wouldn't have changed the story.
Q.3) Peter threw a toy soldier. His family had served as soldiers according to the book.

  13. I think the meaning of “Just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.” is because you think its not happening here can happen somewhere else and the place wasn't specified because some kids can try to go there and hurt them self's. they chose a solder because the boys family is a bunch of solders.

  15. The meaning of the phrase "Just because it isnt happening here doesnt mean that it is happening" this quote or phrase was meant by some thing that might not be happening doesnt mean that it can never happen in the furture. The author did not name a specific setting yet because there was not set setting the book yet. Also there was no setting that was special and important alot yet. And peter threw his toy solider. And peter had that toy because his dad gave it to him because his dad was a soldier.

  16. I think the meaning of the phrase "Just because it isnt happening here doesnt mean it isnt happening". I think that means just because it isnt happening where you are doesnt mean its not happening at all. The author didnt name the place because it wasnt important and didnt matter. Peter threw a little toy soldier, he chose that because that was Paxs favorite toy and meant a lot to him and Peter new he would go get it and also they would always play a game of fetch and pax pax would go get the soldier

  17. I think the meaning of the phrase "Just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening," means that anything can be happening in any part of the world and you may not know about it. I think the author did not specify a specific setting in the book because the main character is always moving to a different place. The toy that the author picked was a toy soldier. I think the author picked this toy because some of the members in the family were soldiers.

  19. Q.1- I think that the phrase "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening." this means that don't act like something is only happening to you because later on its going to happen to someone else. This shows its not only going to happen to you.

  20. The meaning of the phrase "Just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" means if its not happening near you its not happening somewhere else

  21. The phrase at the begining of the story means something to me. This phrase means that just because you don't see something does'nt mean it is'nt happening somewhere else. I think the author didn't describe a setting of the story because soon in the story the setting will play a big part. When Peter threw the toy soldier Pax ran after it because Pax thought they were playing fetch. I think the author used the toy solider as a toy for Pax because Peters father was a soldier and he died, he meant a lot to Peter.

  22. The meaning of the phrase "Just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" means if it isn't happening in one place doesn't mean it isn't happening somewhere else. I think that means Sara Pennypacker wanted to create more suspance in the story Peter threw a little toy soldier, he chose that because that was Pax's favorite toy and meant a lot to him. This is my reason of why i think that quote was said in this story.

  24. I think the meaning of "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" means if something isn't happening to you dosen't mean it is not happening to someone else. like when something hard happens to you dosen't mean it is happening to someone else or the other way around.

  25. I think that the meaning of the phrase "Just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" is that if something is not happening where we are that doesn't mean it is not happening somewhere else. This is part of the story because they don't say a specific place they only say it is somewhere near the woods. Also that does not mean that something can be happening in the woods. This is what I think the meaning of the phrase "Just because it isn't happening here that doesn't mean it is happening some place else" means.

  26. The meaning of the phrase "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening" is to say that different places have different occasions. For example, when it is winter in New York it can be summer in Florida. The author did not name a specific setting , but she described the setting by saying there where lots of trees and plants,so by these clues I can infer that the setting is the Forest , where Peter left Pax. Peter threw a toy solder to make Pax run into the woods because it was the only toy Pax would run after. Pax thought Peter was just playing a normal game of "Fetch"

  30. I think the phrase "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening," means that it's not happening where you are but it's happening somewhere. I think the author didn't say the setting because Peter is always traveling.Peter threw the soldier because it's Paxs' favorite toy and when Peter throws the soldier Pax will run after the soldier.

  31. i think the phrase "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening if its not happening to you it could be happening to someone else or it can happen to you in the future. I think peter choose that toy because it was Pax's favorite toy and pax thought they were just playing a game. I think they didn't choose a setting because the story was in about 10 differen't places.

  33. i think the phrase "just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening means that when something isn't happening where you are doesn't mean it isn't happening somewhere else or to someone else. I think the author did not name a specific place because he knew that if she put in enough details the reader will be able to understand the phrase. When peter threw the toy soldier which pax loved pax thought they were going to be playing a game and ran after it peter threw the toy soldier because his dad was a soldier and he had died so the soldier meant a lot to peter.

  34. I think "just because its not happening here dosnt mean its happening there" means because if something happens in Asia it dosn't have to happen in America. This means that one thing dosn't have to happen all around the world.
